Our Colombian Decaf Espresso, is a Colombian Crecer project coffee, decaffeinated by the Swiss Water process and roasted medium here in Filey.
Most decaf is stripped with chemical solvents yet Swiss Water do it differently! At the Swiss Water plant in British Columbia, Canada, the green beans are soaked in water that’s already saturated with coffee’s natural flavour compounds, so only the caffeine moves out of the bean. The water passes through carbon filters to catch the caffeine, then goes round again, until the beans are 99.9% caffeine-free with the flavour still in them. No chemicals, just water, time and carbon.
The result is a decaf that drinks like a proper coffee: smooth and sweet with a thick crema, and nothing to give away that it’s a decaf. Speciality grade, cupping at 83.5 points.
